KOS Publishing was incorporated in Ontario, Canada, July 2002, by me - Helke Ferrie (born Feb. 5, 1948 in Germany). I am its sole owner and director. My education includes prehistoric, ancient Near Eastern and Greek archaeology, Chinese and Buddhist studies, and I hold a master?s degree in physical anthropology. My areas of special interest became the evolution of disease and the application of Complexity Theory to biological evolution. When I became seriously ill in the mid-1990?s with Myasthenia gravis, I learned that standard medicine is not concerned with causation which, in my case, turned out to be mercury amalgam dental fillings and many year's exposure to DDT while growing up in India. Neither did standard medicine offer me anything beyond symptom control with steroids and other immuno-suppressant drugs, all of which are carcinogenic and accelerate osteoporosis, leaving me with no meaningful choice between treatment and the disease. These toxins include antibiotics, once a divine gift to humanity, now their overuse having rendered them often ineffective or turned them into poisons as well. We now live in the world Rachel Carson feared. This world and our bodies need cleaning up so Nature can fix the mess we made. Top My recovery also brought me first-hand experience of how embattled environmentally-oriented physicians are because they have the courage to question an economic paradigm that accepts poisoning the world and making people sick - and keeping them sick - for the sake of profit as part of business as usual. A doctor trained in toxicology and basic science can often cure chronic disease caused by food that does not properly nourish, water not fit to drink, air that kills, and medications that shut down the body?s protests against an environment not fit to live in. Such a physician is a formidable enemy of an economy based on petrochemicals, war, pesticides, and agricultural practices that have a mere passing acquaintance with Nature?s imperatives. Then came the shock at seeing how doctors practicing environmental, nutritional and orthomolecular medicine were routinely attacked by their own regulatory authorities for not following the standard of near-universal ignorance. Top Furthermore, since no one person can even begin to make the general reader aware of all the valuable information available and constantly being generated in medical science, it was time to follow the spirit of ancient China as found in the I Ching, which advises that ?it furthers one to appoint helpers?. Those ?helpers? are my deeply cherished authors who share with me the love of ?medicine that works? and who draw from knowledge and experience far exceeding mine as a journalist. Thus, a town council approving a golf course near your home can result in your child getting cancer from the pesticides commonly used on the fairways. Your uninformed decision to buy a deodorant containing aluminum and phenol increases your risk of Alzheimer?s and neurotoxic disease. A technician?s simple human error or a faulty computer action, anywhere on the planet can result in a release of radiation so powerful, that future generations are condemned to suffer the consequences in birth defects, compromised immune systems, infertility and more. A government?s decision to downsize the administrative staff in a water-processing facility can result in disasters such as Walkerton, Ontario, experienced recently. Top We become the victims of horrendous consequences from actions based on personal ignorance - often deliberately fostered by industries and governments on the short-term take from humanity?s future. The politics of medicine focuses on the forces that cause accidental, deliberate and systemic ignorance in medical practice and research. Knowledge is only power when it liberates. The February 17th, 2004 issue of the Canadian Medical Association Journal stated that ?medicine is in a crisis? because medical research is corrupted by business interests that actively serve to suppress life-saving research results. Indeed, the influence of Big Pharma and the insurance industry has reached proportions comparable only to the Roman Empire and the former Soviet Union. A classic example is the story told by Dr. Felix Ravikovich (for details go to Publications) in his Plot Against Asthma and Allergy Patients published by KOS in 2003. It tells the same story for asthma and allergy as Dr. David Healy does about the sell-out by psychiatry to the antidepressant drugs in his international best-seller, Let Them Eat Prozac (Lorimer 2003).
