After having panned the shares of the manufacturer of the DaVinci
"robot" a couple of weeks ago Barron's this week writes about the maker
of Testim, a testosterone-based gel "designed to help men lead longer,
more energetic lives, the fastest growing testosterone-replacement
therapy on the market. Apply the gel to your upper arms once a day and
you may start gaining muscle, losing fat and becoming friskier in bed.
Longer term, doctors say, testosterone therapy can curb the risks of
heart disease, diabetes and osteoporosis."..."This is a growing market,
and it's very safe," says John Mulhall, director of sexual medicine at
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. "There are very
solid reasons for screening men for testosterone and prescribing
testosterone treatments."
....
"Testim faces several competitors and some lingering questions about the
side effects of testosterone therapy; some experts have theorized, but
not demonstrated, that it raises the risks of prostate cancer."
....
Co has another drug in the pipeline, Xiaflex, aimed at treating
Dupuytren's contracture, a kind of hand disorder suffered by hundreds of
thousands.
....
"Xiaflex might have several other uses, such as treating frozen shoulder
syndrome (a restriction of motion), Peyronie's disease (penis
malformation) and possibly cellulite."
