I received a letter from my health centre this week advising me that in
future they will only authorise 100 test strips per year.

In their words "this will allow you to test your blood sugars twice weekly.
In the majority of cases this is more than adequate"

I carry out at least 1 test per day and in hot weather this can increase to
2 or 3 as my blood sugars drop rapidly.

Has anyone else had this problem with their local health centre or GP?

Do a search on the Internet site of NICE there are some Draft Guidelines on
there for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics

Good Luck

Most of the UK posters on D&E or tablets plus D&E have had the same or
similar problems.

Restriction is in contravention of NICE guidelines, but these are
ignored or re-interpreted by a lot of PCTs due to cost. Some places only
offer urine testing strips.

I got round it by saying that my job requires me to keep a track of my
BG levels for public safety.

Sorry to hear you're having these problems. :-(

Most PCT's are not aware of the guidelines in my experience when living down
south.

I had success last year by mentioning the guidelines and no problems since.

I'd subsitute ignoring for not aware, but we had this discussion in here
last year.

It may be in the Google archive, look for a test strip thread a while
ago. (November 2007 was the last time I got involved)

http://groups.google.co.uk/group/alt.support.diabetes.uk/browse_thread/thread/9d6d9e19f8d8c03c/2fa481e1231c9cec?hl=en&lnk=gst&q=test+strips#2fa481e1231c9cec

You may need to stitch the URL back together.

Is one of many threads concerning this.
