Prev: Nerve pain on outside of ankle
Next: possible scar tissue buildup in finger - how long can it wait?
From: diamond on 1 Jan 2007 17:53 5 weeks ago, my wife shattered her heel. After 2 weeks in hospital it was repaired using plates and pins, and one week later she was sent home. A week of horrible pain followed until she was re-admitted with a wound infection. She has been on anti-biotics ever since, and the plates/pins have been removed and the wound cleaned in theatre every 2 days. After todays visit to Theatre, the surgeon mentioned they'd removed more dead bone and so I asked her if the plates etc would be re-fitted, but she said there wasn't enough left to fix it too. Can anyone tell me what options are open to the surgical team? Can they put an artificial heel in? Or is my wife going to be unable to walk again? I suspect the fact that she weighs around 15st is relevant. Any info/opinions would be appreciated (and I promise I won't automatically assume the worst scenario will happen!)
