I have an appointment with my DME next week to discuss this problem,
but in the meantime I'm hoping some of you will provide some input.

I've been concerned about the high AHI numbers I'm getting...they
range from Day: 22 all the way to 43, weekly and monthly means reflect
the same high numbers.

So this afternoon I connected the machine as I do every night and just
stayed awake for 25 minutes breathing normally. When I started the
Daily data was 0, after 25 minutes it showed a AHI of 36.2.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? I've had this machine
for 5 weeks and I'm assuming it was new when I got it and in good
working order.

What is it reporting for mask leak figures? If excessive, it can
explain the AHI numbers.

The test while you are awake won't really show anything useful because
it doesn't represent breathing pattern whle you sleep.

2c guess, maybe you are breathing out through your mouth when you go to
sleep. If my nose gets blocked, I'll sometimes fall asleep breathing in
through my nose and machine, whilst breathing out through my mouth. Once
thr ub eventually clears the nose, then I auto return to breathing out
throught my nose. I hot the Resmed machine gives losts of red spokes
during the nose in-mouth out period.

Something's wrong if it's showing an AHI of 36 when the guy is awake,
though. My guess, as your's Andy, was mask leaks.

Failing that, and assuming the OP was sitting/lying down *very quietly* when
he made the test, I can think of two other explanations. First, the OP fell
asleep but didn't notice. Second, the machine is faulty.

If, on the other hand, the OP did the test whilst he did the ironing, washed
up the dishes, or read the newspaper that could lead to lots of changes in
breathing that the machine might mis-recognise as hypopneas.

I'm going to try the experiment and report back. Maybe others could too?

yes, I am a mouth breather with a ffm, no I did not fall asleep, just
lying awake quietly on the bed, leak rate .14 L/s.

But why should it make a difference if you are a mouth breather?
