From: Squirrely on 14 Oct 2005 09:42 Could you pray for Drew my son. He is having financial problems with no medical insurance. He had a contact lens slip in his eye. It has scratched his eye, it is still in there somewhere. He can't get it out. He finally borrowed money to go into Drs and they say it is all in his head. But Stacy his girlfriend sees it in there too. So they did nothing for him. He has been having stomach problems too and couldn't get his meds for it for over a week. Things are just not going well for him right now. I am worried about his sight now because of all this happening with his eye. If he has to go to specialist, it will cost big bucks. We have no way of helping them out. I am still not doing good either. Keep sweating, big time, and don't know why. So this is dehydrating me more. I wish I could see my boys. They have been so busy and can't get down here. I haven't been well enough to go up their way. Thank you so much for any prayers, good thoughts, etc for Drew. -- Love and hugs to all Good thoughts coming your way too. Squirrely Jo
From: dingalingdeb on 14 Oct 2005 11:56 Hey Jo; you can count on prayers for Drew and for you as well, from lil ole me in Alberta, Canada. Sis and I recently drove through the U.S. to visit our dad and his wife in Oregon (four yrs after my mum passed away, my dad was stuck in a fairly deep depression and was living 4,500 kms from me, in Nova Scotia, Canada and it was very difficult being so far away from him, so I bought him a computer and set him up in a christian chat group and he 'met' this woman online, they 'talked' for months and then my dad flew to the U.S. to meet her - Long story short, they married and he moved to Oregon with her) anyway, the landscapes etc. on the trip were beautiful and then when we got there, my dad and Barb took us sightseeing to many beautiful places, including the Redwood forest in Caifornia...anyway, (man, can I digress or what? :-) though there is much beauty in the U.S. I must say your health care (read insurance) sucks - compared to ours in Canada, that is. Like just having to pay for rx's - I can't imagine! just my 'regular' monthly meds that I was on for at least 10 years, would cost $16,800.00 a year! and anything 'extra' would, of course, be more than that and that is covered 100% by Stew's work insurance. THEN not to mention all the other times, but just thinking of my latest hospital 'experiences' 4 surgeries; in hospital 2.5 months, 3 long ambulance rides from hospital to hospital and one airlift - holey creemolie!! Let's just hope that Drew 'finds' the contact lens in there somewhere and that his eye will be ok!!! I wish you could see your boys more too, hon and I hope you're feeling better soonest. dingaling deb Don't take life too seriously. You won't get out alive. From: Hellacious Jeb on 14 Oct 2005 13:41 oh man, sqJo! lots prayers being sent as I'm typin'! :-} I'm soo sorry, hon! when it rains, it pours, huh??? you might ask him to start rinsing his eye w/some of that 'liquid tears' stuff, to at least keep his eyes moist. SOMETIMES the contact slides around, so hopefully it MAY slide back out to where he or Stacy can grab it. The ONE possiblity that maybe it ISN'T there and the drs are right ... GRANTED, it's a LONG shot .... what they might be seeing is swollen eye tissue from being rubbed so often. I know when I have scratched my eyes, just due to allergies ... I have rubbed them sooo hard that the eyeball LITERALLY had a swollen 'shelf' lookin' type membrane over the top portion of my 'cornea'. and that swollen membrane came completely all the way down from under my top eyelid to the top half and right side of my eyeball. The drs didn't do much of nothin' ... cept tell me to quit rubbin' it, use that liquid tears to help keep things moist, and to flush it out, and to use cold compresses to help relieve the swelling. I 'cheated' occasionally and would used the edge of a clean washcloth to 'itch the very edge my eyelid' so's not to irritate my eye worse! (and of course, take my allergy med) I know, that's not QUITE the same thing, but those things WILL help! I used to wear contacts, my brothers still do. They HAVE lost a contact in their eye ... and just waited for it to eventually work itself downwards. The LESS Drew can mess with his eye, the better it will be! IF he can let it be for awhile (it would drive me batchit nuts to try to leave it be so i completley understand the panic of havin' to find it NOWWWW) that will not only give it a chance to reposition itself, but it will ALSO alleviate some of the trauma he would be causing it by constant messing with it. IF he needs to go outside, tell him to please make cerain he wears sunglasses! When I had scratched my eye sooo many moons ago from my contact, the dr insisted I wear sunglasses outside ... I tho't for SURE he was nuts, til I went out and the light was soo severe, cuz of the strain I'd been puttin my eye thru, that I knew he was right! The only 'concern' I truly have is AFTER the contact is out ... since he's scratched his eye, is whether or not he would be needing some sort of antibiotic for his eye?? Hmmmm, what I'm gonna post here ROFL is what an emergency nurse told me a year or so ago ... have tried it myself, it really DID help, but don't know how it would work for OTHERS, so I've hesitated about posting the 'hint' I'd received (and used)! This 'nurse' would use regular first-aid antibiotic ointment. (damn can't think of the popular name stuff right now that most folks use, buy it over the counter for cuts, etc :-( I HATE my memory at times! grrrrrr ) Anyway, she would place a generous amount in the affected eye, before she'd go to bed at night. She said she'd use it at night cuz she couldn't stand how the ointment made her eye feel, as i'td be really thick and you wouldn't be able to see 'thru' it very well. There's nothing I could find that said it COULN"T be done! And, NO, I'm NOT telling ya to go do it!! i'm tellin' ya what I HAVE DONE ... WHAT worked for ME .... as ya know! :-) I'm definitely not NO doctor .. am not in the medical field NO where cept CONSUMER-wise! :-) sooo YMMV if'n anyone ever tries any of the 'solutions' I've ever tried! The reason I've tried lotsa unorthodox methods is cuz I usually ain't had the monies for most 'conventional treatments' ... and necessity IS the mother of invention! :-) I've chattered lonnng enough! I'll be prayin' really hard for Drew and Stacy, and of course, for you and Jim! as I sooo totally understand THOSE feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, and fustration when there just isn't ANY means to get the medical care/treatment necessary for plain out SURVIVAL, let alone just to make the patient 'feel more comfortable' !!! -- Hugz n Luvz! From: DeeDee on 14 Oct 2005 13:58 Squirrels, Prayers and good vibes coming your way and also Drew's way. The eyes can be injured so fast I can feel your concern. Have you started any new medications recently? I had one med....fibro fog here....that caused me to sweat something horrible. I also do that when taking Tylenol.
