I wouldn't have been able to guess where RZ was supposed to originate in the film - her accent didn't sound genuinely English. If film companies are going to spend zillions of dollars on making a film, surely they can afford to hire actors and actresses who sound right for the part? > And, there are a > few genuine English accents that can tend to make you cringe, I'm not > so mean as to give examples (I was going to add that they know who > they are, but I don't think they do). There are a few English accents I don't like and rather more American accents, but false-sounding accents are the ones that make me cringe. > > Yes, if > someone's accent is variable that must be a good reason to suspect it > is false. I don't really hold an opinion on that. Some people seem to be able to pick up an accent easily, others find it a struggle. Some people of Asian extraction who were born in this country sound as though they arrived only six months ago, whereas others who were born abroad and migrated here speak English more proper than what I does. I'm currently using a cheap USB modem and it drops out a few times a day. I suspect a dodgy telephone line has something to do with it, but a USB modem is allegedly heavier on CPU usage than ethernet so if you have a lot of stuff running on your laptop that might be part of the explanation. > >> ps I also watched Miss Potter on Sunday, hardly seems like any time > >> at all since it was on in the cinema. > > >It was a lovely warm Sunday evening film. > > Too true, and I thought her accent was just fine. :) If everyone had the same opinion, the world would be a boring place :) Evil Nigel
