From: Pete on 20 Aug 2007 22:22 For Christophe or Vanny...Please respond to this (and keep my message quoted) so that Howard may read your response with my quote, and hopefully unblock me so that we can communicate once again. For Howard...I would like to sincerely apologize for my behavior, and what happened long ago in the sci.med ng. I would like to be friends and communicate with you once again, since you are an invaluable benefit to this group, and I have learned so much from you. I have some important questions to ask you that I consider quite relevant for both me, and for the group. I am truly sorry for what happened in the past, and hope you will accept my apology. Thank you...Pete

He seems to have a great deal of compassion for gerd sufferers. I hope he reads your post.

I am having a hard time, and would like to ask Howard some interesting questions that I am sure you would appreciate, and I believe would be informative to all. I hope and pray that he will answer me and accept my apology, so that we may communicate once again...Pete

I am back on somac (protinix) myself, although I'm trying to take 40 mgs a day rather than 80 mgs. The odd feature of my whole illness is that it has been characterized by hyper salivation and gassy chest pains rather than heartburn (although I have had a bit of that lately as well) Frustratingly, my ph study was normal and hence the need for impedance testing. The burning under my ribs has almost gone now that I am back on the PPIs. The h2 blockers controlled the acid. Unfortunately, they also started to give me terrible headaches. I have to endure more than a few side effects with the PPIs as well, but they are bearable up until this point. I have been having half a small bowl of yogurt and I think that has helped me with the gastritis and the constipation. I wonder if your time on the h2 blockers contributed to your burning under the ribs? I read your theory on the removal of the polyps and that also sounded reasonable. I didn't want to say anything before, but I am not a big fan of Nexium. It is supposed to be one of the strongest PPIs, but it didn't agree with me at all. Protinix has been far better, but (hopefully) it is only a stop gap measure before surgery.
From: Vanny on 22 Aug 2007 05:54 I have had the same reaction - Nexium one year bad side-effects, Protonix (aka Pantoprazole) 3.5 years. Now my doctor wants me to try Omeprazole because it is cheaper. I have told him that I will give it a go, but if I have any side-effects then I will insist on being prescribed Protonix again. I am now battling with salivary gland stones (probably the parotid gland) http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/23069166/ - just when I thought that there was nothing else that could go wrong with me. The stone(s) is(are) probably only a millimetre or two big http://www.entusa.com/oral_photos.htm Every time I ate yesterday my RHS face would balloon up and I had to take pain killers with my evening meal yesterday evening and could hardly get the fork inbetween my teeth as my cheek swelled up and became virtually immobilised. It is the first time that salivary gland stones have been an issue for me - to be truthful I wasn't even aware that this could happen to a person. On the up side, I am not having such a bad reaction today with the saliva not bunging up the gland and my cheek not ballooning out on eating like yesterday so the inflammation is minimal, but has spread down the RHS neck and stops at the centre of the neck. I don't feel too hot and I might have an infection in the gland and environs. The last thing I need at the moment is blood poisoning. I am turning into one big medical science experiment. It reminds me of the film 'The Fly' with Jeff Goldblum and his 'museum'. He started his own collection as bits started falling off him in the process of turning into a fly. Well, as they say 'Life is a beach and then you dive'.
