From: Charlie Leo on 17 May 2006 22:10 The seminar that I went to this evening was advertised as information about ED. Well, yes it was....But... Dr. Lipschultz compared all other remedies as inferior to penile inplants. I had my RP about 20 months ago. I still have both incontinence and impotence. Frankly, I would have the implant done tomorrow if it had a chance of helping with the incontinence. I know you will tell me to ask my doctor, but until I can get in to see him, does anyone have any experience in this area? Charlie

(Sort of!) Do have some thoughts, though. As far as I know, surgical treatment for ED and for urinary incontince are completely unrelated. Medline Plus covers it all. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000891.htm Here is a pretty comprehensive paper on incontinence. If you want to see the whole thing, not just the summary, look for a menu on the left that says "Summary". http://www.guideline.gov/summary/summary.aspx?ss=14&doc_id=6251 or http://www.guideline.gov/summary/summary.aspx?ss=15&doc_id=6251&nbr=4011 This one has a whole section about RP http://www.icsoffice.org/documents/ici_pdfs/chapters/Chap11B.pdf Again, curing incontinence has nothing to do with a penile implant. Best wishes, Laurel

But, the salient point usually made is that it is the only medical situation where the gold standard is attempted last. -- PSA 16 10/17/2000 @ 46 Biopsy 11/01/2000 G7 (3+4), T2c RRP 12/15/2000 G7 (3+4), T3cN0M0 Neg margins PSA .1 .1 .1 .27 .37 .75 EBRT 05-07/2002 @ 47 PSA .34 .22 .15 .21 .32 Lupron 07/03 (1 mo) 8/03 (4 mo), 12/03, 4/04, 09/04, 01/05, 5/05, 10/05, 2/06 PSA .07 .05 .06 .09 .08 .132 Non Illegitimi Carborundum

Having someone alter your body by cutting it open, removing things, and stuffing things in doesn't appeal to me. My understanding is that these surgeries are not readily reversible. If you don't like the implant or it gives you problems, you can have it removed with another surgery, but you won't be the same as what you were before the surgery. Also, it's not clear to me that what you wind up with at the end of the day is really what you're looking for. If only they could open us up and put back our youth but, alas, that's not what they put in. Best of luck. Alan

For what it is worth, I can testify that dealing with and greatly reducing the incontinence can reduce many of the frustrations and difficulties of any intimaticies attempted with a leaky faucet. I suspect that this will be the case regardless of what level of performance you are capable of. Dealing with the incontinence also has a 24/7 benefit. I wish you luck with your decision making and eventual choice of treatment. >
