I've been trapped at my client's place out of town for a while, and
there's no gym nearby. I brought a couple pair of dumbbells, but I
can't figure out how to keep working my pecs without a bench. I've
just been doing pushups, which are not optimum.

Any ideas? Thanks

Flys while lying down on a pair of stools?
Pushups with bags of sand in a knapsack?

Try dips on a solid table.
Put your hands on the edge an face away, and put your feet on a chair.

Use the dumbells for flyes/pullovers while you lie on the floor.

Take a pair (or more) of plates, hold them together from the sides
strictly with side pressure using mostly the base of your palms, IOW,
don't get under or over them. Now do curls up and down. I think you'll
feel those pecs working. This is called a "crush curl." It seems to be
most popular with a kettlebell but you can do it with plates, and if you
drop the weights it can be dangerous to your toes, so don't use much
weight and be prepared to get out of the way. You won't need much
weight on this.

If you try it, let me know what you think of it.
