Next weekend is really messed up! My son's birthday is Saturday, the
13th, and I just purchased four concert tickets to take him, Sarah M,
and Diane to see Journey, Heart, and Cheap Trick on Friday, the 12th. He'll
be 21 and can drink legally now, so we're also taking him to his
favorite Mexican restaurant on Saturday where he can drink a few
margaritas.

The problem is that the Celtic Fest is Saturday and Sunday, the 13-14,
at Grant Park in Chicago, and nobody else wants to go with me. I could
jump on the train and go alone on Sunday, but it wouldn't be the same; I'm
not used to doing things by myself. Plus, I'm getting old (sort of) and
I'll probably be worn out from the previous two days of festivities.

Last year, we were downtown for some other event and strolled through
the Celtic Fest on the way home. It looked pretty cool and I really
wanted to go this year and spend a little more time there. Bummer!

Oh well! Maybe I'll still be alive to go next year. I don't know how
many years I've got left, so I really want to make the most of my
remaining time. Always the pessimist!

Doesn't that count as abuse?

Cheap Trick, /maybe/ - but Journey and Heart? They should have been put
down at birth to protect the public.

In civilised nations, he'd've been able to drink legally at a much
younger age. Why have laws that encourage people to break them? it
just brings in the law into disrepute.

You do know that the Celts have more or less been debunked in recent
years? Irish people don't like to admit it, but the real Celts were
probably only a tribe or so down in the South of France, and the British
Isles have almost nothing to do with them.

(Irish nationalists also don't like to admit that the island of Ireland
is part of the geographical entity called the British Isles, but it is -
can't argue with geography. Have to put it like that 'cos the nation I
call `The Republic of Ireland' when wanting to be unambiguous is
officially `Ireland' in English, according to the Irish authorities;
although they'll answer to `Republic of Ireland' on account of it being
a valid *description* of their state. They won't answer to Irish
Republic.)

Last time I was in Ireland, there was a lovely arts and crafts and music
festival going on in Galway. I was astonished at the huge number of
foreigners (not just the usual peripatetic Brits, but Eastern Europeans
and gawd knows who) running stalls - seems that Ireland's getting a lot
of immigration.

And I've not tasted strawberries like that since last time I picked 'em
in the back garden of my parents' house. Never my life before had I met
a commercial strawberry I could eat without revulsion - and in Ireland,
I met *better* than grew in my parents' back garden. You should visit
the place.

...wooops!! Just read your post again, and it seems that you weren't
planning on slipping off at all, but that you just fancied some
company...sorry I proceeded to give you what sounds like an unfair and
annoying lecture ( blush..cringe )..if you weren't so far away, I'd
have chummed you along to it just to make it up to you..and aye! It
sounds like it would be a great day out..I love Celtic music!!
...It's great that you are all celebrating Paul's birthday
together, definitely, but I can understand your desire to get out and
grab every bit of life, bearing in mind your health worries.
I hope you have a fantastic weekend, and that the birthday bash is a
blast!!
Yours apologetically! :)
