I joined this not very exclusive club a year later, and I've always found your reports encouraging. My `anniversary' is July 9th, but I haven't had my 8th yearly test. I hope it is just like yours.
From: David Marchand on 17 Sep 2008 00:08 J and Len and anyone else on one year PSA testing interval: How long have you been doing annual PSA testing. I am 2 1/2 years post RP and my internist (I was turned back to him for general care about a year ago from my uro) tells me that I can now switch to yearly tests after quarterly for the first year, semi annually for the last year- all undetectible. I know that IP gets tested much more frequently and I guess that works for him. What is the general consensus. Is annual testing ok after 2 1/2 years post RP and all are undetectible? David

I can't remember exactly what the schedule was for the first two years, but it was semi- annual for the next two years, and it has been yearly since then. My urologist said he usually follows his patients for 8 years, and if all is well, leaves further yearly tests to the primary care physician., so I suppose this will be the last year I see him. Walsh, in his Guide to Surviving Prostate Cancer, says he thinks yearly tests are adequate for routine cases and promising post- surgical pathology. Of course, if there is an indication that the cancer might be specially aggressive, as I believe was the case for IP, more frequent testing may be advisable. I doubt it the exact testing schedule is critical. Some doctors are more conservative than others, or, they may just be sticking by a method that has worked for them in the past and don't see any pressing need to change. I am not a physician, but from what I've read, I don't think you need to worry that if there is a recurrence you won't have time to do anything about it if you wait a year between tests.
From: jloomis on 17 Sep 2008 10:21 I also am not sure since it is a blur during the first 2 years post RP. I know that after several successful >0.01 quarterly over about a period of 2 years I went into yearly testing. Wish you the best with testing and overall general health. jloomis "David Marchand" <djmarchand(a)cox.net> wrote in message news:bp%zk.12333$rV4.71(a)newsfe03.iad... >J and Len and anyone else on one year PSA testing interval: > > How long have you been doing annual PSA testing.
