From: denman55@yahoo.com on 20 Aug 2006 10:27 I have experienced a huge amount of weight gain recently. I thought it was my diet or lack of excercise or something, than realized that I am on Paxil. I am in the process of weaning myself off it - went from 20mg and am now down to 10mg - but the weight gain has been horrible and I need to know what to do. I have no Libido, and I'm fat. I'm a male, 50, and too young (sort of) to be in this state. Is there anyone else out there that has gone thru the same thing with Paxil ?

Paxil is notorious for both weight gain and loss of libido. Fortunately, there are other antidepressants that may be effective for you without those particular side-effects. Are you working with your doctor on this? marcia
From: denman55@yahoo.com on 20 Aug 2006 10:43 I am working to wean off of Paxil entirely. So I am currently on 10mg. But the weight gain is already there, now I have to reverse it somehow, so am hoping when I am totally off Paxil, my dieting efforts will kick in and the weight will come off. marcia wrote: > denman55(a)yahoo.com wrote: > > I have experienced a huge amount of weight gain recently. Diet and exercise. It came off for me fairly quickly and with no problems. Be careful weaning yourself off Paxil; if you don't go slowly enough, you can experience a nasty discontinuation syndrome (often flu-like symptoms) that can last for weeks. marcia
From: Dr. francois Duvalier on 20 Aug 2006 11:16 <cut> my psychiatrist was dismissive that ADs cause weight gain; his explanation was that that you are eating more 'cos you are happy, ie the medication is working! -- 'I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies; for the hardest victory is over self.'
