From: Terry Shreve on 23 Dec 2005 22:24 Rich, It has been proven to increase the pH by over 27%, you can test this if you wish. The charts on the website listed below are correct. Terry http://www.advancedenergysystems.us

Show us the independent reviews of data that give real information, not a sales pitch. Here are some hints where to to find that kind of information: www.pubmed.gov and http://scholar.google.com/ . Here is an online tutorial which should help you understand why you are meeting such resistance. Go through and you will see why the sales pitch you are giving is making you look silly: http://www.biology.arizona.edu/biochemistry/problem_sets/ph/ph.html

The charts on the website listed below are correct. The charts are meaningless. Note that the pH scales are not labeled, the supporting data for the charts are not supplied, and there is no indication of the source of the samples tested or the manner in which the "tests" were conducted. Yes, I can test this, and I shall on my next shift at work. A local drug store sells oxygenated water, and a simple litmus test of that stuff, hospital tapwater, and ordinary bottled water will tell the tale. I promise to document my research a lot better that the bogus report on the website below. > > Terry > http://www.advancedenergysystems.us > From the website linked above" "This addition of oxygen raises the pH level of the body and makes your body less acidic, it is this acidic level in your body that promotes the growth of bacteria and viruses." This is bullshit. In the first place, "your body" is NOT acidic, at least your blood is not. Normal blood pH is 7.35 to 7.45, and the body has several homeostatic systems to maintain it in that range. Anyone whose blood pH drops below 7.3 (7 is neutral, below 7 is acidic, above is alkalinic), is near death and requires vigorous rescusitation to survive. Truly acidic blood (pH below 7) is incompatible with life. Also, I've never heard of a link between blood pH and bacterial or viral infection rates. Oh, if you want to REALLY raise your blood pH, just breathe real fast for a few minutes. Do this sitting on your bed so that you won't injure yourself when you pass out. From the same page: "Key Benefits a.. Raises the bodies pH level b.. Increases the bodies oxygen intake c.. The best hangover cure you can take d.. Kills bacteria that causes bad breath e.. You will benefit with improved health f.. A 90 day 100% money back guarantee if you are not satisfied with your purchase." Every one of these points is false with the possible exception of the last one, and I wouldn't bet money on the veracity of that one. Other bullshit from this website: "Many scientists were stunned when it was revealed that air bubbles in fossilized amber had been analyzed to contain oxygen levels of 38%. Scientific analysis of the air in various parts of the world today reveals the frightening fact that the oxygen content of the air we breath is declining every year." Fact: The oxygen level in the Earth's air has not changed significantly in 10,000 years. "Simply put, the best way to optimize health is to be sure that we oxygenate every cell in our body." Fact: Oxygen is transported from the air into the hemoglobin of the red blood cells in a very efficient manner. The blood carries the oxygen to all the cells of the body which take precisely the amount of oxygen that they need, and the blood actually still has surplus oxygen when it returns to the lungs. No oxygen ingested into the stomach is going to improve the oxygenation of any cells in the body. "Oxygenated water is completely compatible with the hydration demands of the body. The oxygen is quickly absorbed into the body from the instant it comes in contact with your mouth tissue, and continues through the digestive tract." Fact: It's true that "oxygenated" water will hydrate the body. It's water, after all. But the second sentence is total bullshit. The digestive tract is not capable of transporting gasses directly into the blood. This is a good thing! "Nearly all known pathogenic bacteria and viruses are unable to survive in an oxygen-rich environment." Fact: Most pathogens are "aerobic" meaning that they require oxygen just like the body's cells. A few pathogens are, indeed, "anaerobic" and cannot survive in oxygen. Most notable of these are the bacteria that cause gangrene. These would be killed by the oxygen levels in the blood if the blood were able to get to where the infection is, but gangrene is a disease of circulatory impaired tissues. Even if the oxygen levels of the blood could be raised by oxygenated water, it obviously wouldn't help for gangrene. Gangrene IS treated with oxygen in hyperbaric chambers where the gas under high atmospheric pressure is forced directly into the tissues. Oxygenated water would not be useful to this process in any way. "It is a proven fact that cancer can not grow within a positive pH environment. This pH+ Oxygenated Water System will increase your bodies pH level." Fact: Both of these statements are utterly false. Cancer cells grow just fine in the normally alkalinic environment of the body. Oxygenated water has no effect whatsoever on the pH of the body. -- --Rich Recommended websites: http://www.ratbags.com/rsoles http://www.acahf.org.au http://www.quackwatch.org/ http://www.skeptic.com/ http://www.csicop.org/

This bit is complete bullshit. There is no other word for it: "Oxygenated water is completely compatible with the hydration demands of the body. The oxygen is quickly absorbed into the body from the instant it comes in contact with your mouth tissue, and continues through the digestive tract." In case you haven't noticed, after several billion years of evolution, humans have lost the capability of absorbing oxigen from water. To pu it evensimpler so that you may understand it - people drown in water because humans can't absorb oxygen from water. The only part that isn't bullshit is that it's compatible with the hydration demands of the body. Or in other words, it'll make you less thirsty, which is indeed something water does for you if you drink it.

Is it accurate to say you cannot cite even one study to back up your claims for oxygenated water, even though you claimed such studies exist? Is it accurate to say that all of the evidence you have comes from a website that sells the stuff? |
