I've tried to find the wholesale cost of leg components without much
success, couldn't find it anywhere on the internet. A well-kept
secret and I'll bet there's a healthy markup over wholesale. There's
no way most of the stuff should cost what it does.

It's a case of supply and demand. Not so much of the product but of
the money. As long as we have insurance companies that are willing to
dish out the big bucks for these components, we'll have companies
willing to fill the need.

If the components were made in China and sold at Wal-Mart, they'd be
affordable but they'd never hold up to normal use.

I know that a lot of ovehead goes into production of any component.
Just figure in design, prototype production, testing, liability
insurance, etc. But I agreen. No foot should cost $6000 or whateve
they cost these days.

I think my TK2100 knee, billed at around $7,000, lists for $2,500 or so. I
think that's about a fair price, considering the engineering and testing
that goes into it. But a $4,500 installer's markup on a unit that's pretty
much bolt-and-go is ridiculous.
