Powerful enough to scar a psyche for life, I reckon. The first book terrified me - I shudder to think what effect it has on impressionable young children with vivid imaginations. It's unquestionably *superb* literature, and I'm not surprised anyone who follows an evil or weak faith would want it banned. It's powerfully against the evil done by and in the name of religion, amongst other things.
