From: brianlanning on 9 Dec 2005 12:46 I have a strange problem that I'm not sure is dentistry related, but since it's in my mouth, I thought I'd ask here. I'm now 35, I had all four wisdom teeth pulled when I was 18. Now, on the right side of my jaw, there's a spot on the side of my gums next to where the wisdom tooth used to be. It's a hard spot, like a piece of bone or tooth is protruding toward my tongue, but hasn't broken through. It feels a little swolen and inflamed, and is painful to the touch. It's not bleeding and doesn't seem to be infected. The same spot on the left side is completely normal and feels like the rest of my gums. Any ideas what this could be? A piece of bone or tooth that was left in the wound and now is working its way out? brian

From: brianlanning on 9 Dec 2005 14:21 A couple years. But the spot is by where the tooth used to be. It's completely healed over and sealed. I'd say it's a good 3/4" back from the last tooth in back. brian
From: Dr.Braces on 9 Dec 2005 19:59 You need to go get it checked out just to be sure, a simple office visit and an x-ray. From: brianlanning on 10 Dec 2005 12:08 >Any chance of a photo, or x-ray ? I'll have to go in probably. It feels different today. Almost like it's something I can pop. Yesterday it was hard as a rock. It almost feels like an ear infection. And it hurts to swollow a little, like a sore throat in my tonsils, but only on the right side. >Does the last upper tooth impinge upon the lower tissue >when fully closed ? No. The sockets where the wisdom teeth were, and all the back teeth, line up just right. brian
