From: Donna G. on 11 Aug 2008 00:35 Any of you watching the olympics at all? What are your favorite events / people? I LOVE watching the swimming and the gymnastics events! Last night also watched the womens beach vollyball! .. .. .. .. Donna .. .. .. .. 1.) ANGELS EXIST, but some times, since they don't all have wings, we call them FRIENDS...... 2.) J.K.M.A.
From: Gloria Wolfe on 11 Aug 2008 01:24 I've been watching them off and on. Gymnastics have always been my favorite event, both men and women. Tonight was able to see the girls' team from China - awesome! What shocked me, though, is that a couple of them looked about 9-10 years old, even though they have to be at least 16 to participate. Their training begins when a lot of them are just toddlers, and their intensity in competition is admirable. But we all are saddened to see the focus in floor ex become so totally about tumbling to the elimination of dance skills. It used to be wonderful to see incredible tumbling AND graceful dance & I always wished they'd change the men's floor ex to include more dance. Instead the women's has moved towards the men's end of the scale. I'm always astounded by just how strong the male gymnasts are - and I'm stunned that they don't get more severe shoulder injuries than they seem to. Also swimming, diving, track & field. I watch some other stuff, but those are the ones I make a point of watching. As for people - I just have to root for Dara Torres - not only an Olympic medalist at 41, but also a former Gator! And on the men's side, that 4x100 relay last night was really something! > I LOVE watching the swimming and the gymnastics events! Last night > also watched the womens beach vollyball! heehee, we watched some of that too. Mike insists women's beach volleyball is the ultimate sport! He keeps wanting to see a Brazilian team though...... -- Nann remove the Gator cheer to email me Change everything. Love & forgive.

Nanny Yeah, the age of the Chinese female gymnasts has been the subject of much discussion. I know all that intense training can delay their development, but even their faces look so young. Some of the other gymnasts are small, but their faces at least look like teenagers. I do find it hard to believe the Chinese that all of their team will be at least 16 this year. But, without further proof, let the games go on! -- Nann remove the Gator cheer to email me Change everything. Love & forgive.

I like the equestrian events and saw a bit of the dressage the other day. Boxing is a favorite and we have a local boy in contention so it's fun to watch. I saw some weight lifting today and they are amazing. We have a local 15 year old gal in the swimming and she came in 4th Saturday night. I like the diving events and saw a bit of the sculling on Saturday. I guess I like it all. Opening ceremony was a bit overwhelming I thought. I can do with simpler presentations. Looking forward to the closing ceremony which is usually fun for the participants. Ann |
