Just because you found it as simple as being about "a bunch of
psychopaths killing each other over drugs/$", it does not reflect on
how "important" the film is. Action was amazing, but it's at the
bottom of numerous merits of _No Country..._ The Coen brothers
deserved every bit of credit for this work of art, IMO.

I think that viewers who are conditioned to standard Hollywood fodder,
however, would be better off watching a typical action flick. A kind
of summer blockbuster perfect for audiences with a 5-second attention
span, featuring a distinct line between "good" and "bad" guys, that
sort of thing. (You can usually tell the bad guys because they smoke
cigarettes and wield AK-47 automatic rifles). I was truly amazed at
the success of _No Country_, given the propensity of American viewers
to shun almost anything that does not have a Hollywood ending, or at
least a hint that romantic leads would live happily ever after. No
clever sub-plot to leave an open door for sequel, either! Very
strange, indeed.

Wait a sec! This film did not even have a proper love interest! What
bollocks! _American Pie_ is the kind of movie that matters, not this
flick about a bunch of Texans who, like, keep shooting each other for
a sachet full of cash! And that creepy guy was, like, totally gross
when he got naked in the bathroom, eww! Couldn't they find a cuter
actor to play the psycho? With some toned abs and waxed chest? And the
good guy dies near the end, what's that all about? Hello?

<sarcasm mode off>

Sorry, just raving to myself. Nevermind. I tend to go overboard when
talking about movies that I hold dear to my heart. I await your
judgement.

really good to hear from you Sick Boy. I have been digesting
your first post, alternating between wanting to congratulate you
for killing the dragon, patting you on the back for taking the
first steps toward taking control of your life and dealing with
some really hard issues, and then letting the mother in me nag
you (which I am NOT going to do!) You've obviously been through
a lot in the past year or two and have some hard choices to make,
and I know whatever you decide to do, you've come away from your
HepC experience with a greater appreciation of life and it's
potential. I hope you retain that appreciation and find
something awesome you want to do that you love and will make you
love your life even more! (ok, just a little nag there.... but
I tried!)

Thanks for the note about this movie... and the 'wake up' call
it included :) I never usually judge anything by someone else's
opinion, have made a point of being stubborn and insisting on
deciding for myself... and here I was, ready to write off this
movie because one guy at a NG didn't care for it :) wow, am I
getting lazy! Now I'll have to add it to the top of my Netflix
list just to see what it's all about.

All my best to you -- I am convinced that you've definitely
beaten the dragon, and I really hope that any other medical
issues that you have to deal with will be minor and easily
resolved. And please do keep in touch here, let us know how you
are doing. We really do care.
