From: argh.matey.argh on 10 Jul 2008 12:36 Last night was my thrid day on the machine (S8 Auto Set EPR) set at 7. First night not good, mask way to tight used four hours and wnet off. 2nd night went four hours, felt claustrophobic (which I never do) got up and let my face flatten out a bit (about 45 minutes) and went back to bed. Last night was remarkable. Been a long time since I "felt" I slept this deep. Felt as if I was way deep, almost drugged. I really don't know if this is artifact or not ;-))) Could have slept even longer if situation permitted. Numbers (which I just found out how to access) were AHI 15.4, AI 1.1 and HI 14.3 with leak rate of .18 L/S. I found that mask adjustment seems to very critical and I think it went a long way in makeing me feel more comfortable. I'm not using humidifier and it now does not now, seem to be an issue. Looking foward to using the knowledge exhange of all the folks here, Rich

It would naturally gobble as much time as it could to do that, and so you likely spent more time than most people in those very deep stages trying to catch up. Don't be surprised if you experience extremely deep sleep and very vivid dreams for several weeks. Some people can catch up within only two weeks, others can take up to 3 or 4 months, depending on how longstanding the sleep deprivation was, and whether you had been able to sneak catchup naps or any other way to mitigate the sleep debt. After you have "paid the piper", however, you should go back to having normal sleep patterns. --tension

I rarely do, although I am never quite sure whether the machine gets confused by mask leaks?

A level of 0.18 l/s is pretty good and well within ResMed's specs of 0.4 l/s They say that the machine will perform OK at up to 0.7 l/s The AI figure is reasonable but the HI is high. However, this is pretty meaningless based on three days of data, two of which are questionnable because of mask adjustment issues. It will be more useful to look at the numbers in one and two weeks time to see if there is an improvement in AHI and specifically HI. |
