My uro has moved to Chicago, and when I went in for my six month check (RP on 5/1/02), last Wednesday, the Nurse Practitioner did the exam. I knew a woman would be doing the exam, and I was a bit apprehensive. Her name is Jacqueline ___, and a very good looking young woman. She came in and introduced herself as "Jackie" (Why would I have preferred her to introduce herself as "Jacqueline+last name") Well, I told myself that I have been exposed to the world in the hospital and poked and probed by female nurses. Just regard this as the same. The digital went fine---I didnt have to look at her. Actually, it was easier because she has small fingers. But then I had to sit on the table while she checked out my equipment. I have two spermatocoels (Do any of you have those?) That was when I noticed one of the office nurses was also in, watching. My wife tells me that it's SOP when the male doc does a pelvic to have his female nurse in with him. Certainly understandable. But the witness bothered me more than the NP. As she was manipulating my testicles, I looked over her shoulder and kept telling myself that she's just doing her job. But it was the other nurse watching her manipulate my testicles that bothered me.

My dad, who was backwards in many ways, told me when I was about 10 years old...not to be bothered if a woman doctor or nurse did any type of exam...and over 45 years later...I am impressed by his wisdom. A woman nurse removed my cath after my RRP and I could have cared less. Honest to God Claude, it just dosen't matter. They're doing a job and their job is to help US. I hope this helps. Ron B. Some women living in those countries where they have to wear veils probably feel the same way about exposing their faces as we might about exposing our "private parts". In other places, nudity is common and nobody thinks twice about it. It's all just cultural baggage. I'm just as happy to leave that baggage behind. Alan
