About 2 months on CPAP now and I'm wondering if my nasal mask is
impacting my vision by distorting my eyeball. I know its sounds odd,
but the mask rides up sometimes and the sides press very close to the
bottom outside ot my eyeballs. I'm having some blurred vision. I
know it sounds bizzare (and it is the time of year for all types of
stuff in the air) Has anyboody heard anthing of this or had something
similar? Thanks for any feedback

You getting mask leaks (ie leaks of air) when this happens?

BTW, getting the mask fit right can take a long time, and you may need to
try lots of different masks.

I have gotten mask leaks (often running in the area from bridge of
nose roughly down the side) As a result I'm trying to run the mask
down as far as I can towards my mouth (I have a moustace so that kind
of gets in the way). Ared you saying leaking air can do this and have
other people had vision issues with that?

The problem might be that you have your mask on too tightly. It should
actually be fairly loose on your face, just tight enough to stop
leaks, but loose enough that it actually "puffs" out a bit on each
breath. It' took me about 6 months of constant playing with the mask
to get it to where it fit well. If you can't get the mask to fit
loosely, then ask your equipment provider to come and remeasure you
for fit. At first they thought I was a medium to large from looking,
but using the gauges they have, I am actually a small. You might even
need an "extra deep" mask if you nose is small, but sticks out from
your face a bit further than average. If you can't get one that fits
properly with a standard mask, ask if you can try a simplicity one
( the patient interface i.e. the silicone cup that fits over your
nose) is a lot smaller than standard masks, or you might want to try a
"nasal pillow" system where the rubber parts fit just over your
nostrils rather than over your whole nose.

I really think, however, if you mask is riding up, that it might just
be that the top strap is too tight. Try laying on your back and
loosening up the top straps a bit, to where they mask begins leaking
from being "too loose" then just tighten it enough to barely stop the
leaks. Wiggle the mask around a little to seat it on your nose and see
if that helps the eye issue.

I have not had this particular problem, but yes air leaks can harm your
eyes. You are right to worry about it.
