I know that someone was experimenting (on dogs) with magnets embedded in the
air passages. The idea was to embed magnets in the airways with like poles
opposite each other, so they repel each other and keep the airway open. Does
anybody know if that has progressed at all?

Wow, that's pretty cool. The only question, I would have is what would
happen if you breathe in something where you would want to close your air
pipe like a fly or so. Does that mean that you have a constant open airway
and you can close it or even swallow?
