From: DebbRussell on 3 Jun 2007 13:29 I'm looking for new Ostomy friends to share information with and just to talk to. It's easier to talk to people who are in the same boat as myself. Have had this illeostomy since 2005. And I am considered to be a "Problem Child". Am going into hospital soon for my third hernia and a twisted bowel. I also have mesh inside.Am having lots of problems, and this upcommng surgery will be my 5th! Please write and share, helping one another is what it's all about.

I was given a colostomy in 2000 (lucky me!). My surgeries are not as bad as it sounds. The last 6 were relatively minor. I had a port-a-cath installed and removed to facilitate chemo, I have had two cataract lens implants installed (I am 76!), and I have had a couple of stents replaced which is relatively minor. There was some radiation damage from pre-surgical radiation which damaged a ureter. This was found during a CT scan on routine follow up and I went so see a urologist who recommended installing a stent to keep my kidney healthy, which I thought was a great idea! Because of potential mineral build ups, it's replaces about every six months under low sedation as day surgery. I'm due to have another stent replaced on Wednesday. While there in there, they are going to zap my enlarged prostate with a laser to improve my benign prostatic hyperplasia, something that's adverted here quite regularly as a means for selling medication. If they weren't going in any way I probably would not have it done. I have been disease free (and major surgery free!) for the last three years or so, and I generally feel great, for my age! I took up an instrument again that I used to play fifty years ago and I am now the proud member of a community band. We played a concert last night that was well received and I had a ball! Hang in there! Things *will* get better!! Regards... Tom -- Thomas M. Spillman, Jr. Asst. From: be1952 on 4 Jun 2007 00:35 i celebrated the 5th anniversary of my ileostomy surgery last weekend. i guess i've been lucky inasmuch as i havent had any problems since, hmm surgical problems anyway. the usual, bags breaking, falling off type things probably happens to everone at sometime. much of which is more a result of the tropical environment i live in, as well as living on my yacht. tell me please, what is "mesh inside"? cheers for now bruce north australia On Sun, 03 Jun 2007 13:29:50 -0400, "DebbRussell" <jrussell23(a)cogeco.ca> wrote: >I'm looking for new Ostomy friends to share >information with and just to talk to. I had 4 surgeries in 2 weeks last July to give me my colostomy, then had another surgery in september to revise the stoma. I had complications with my gallbladder and just didn't feel right for a while. I was lucky enough to have had it reversed in May, but am still recovering from that and of course have life long risks of ending up with it again due to possible complications. I definately have nothing compared to the stories i have read, but have been doing a lot of research and learning on the various conditions as i never know when I may end up in one of the many different situations i have read about! This is a great forum for support and has definately helped me!!

I have had an iliostomy since I was 13, in 1987. in 1997 I found a dr in la that made everything internal. for 9 years I fought to keep that internal bag and had 14 surgeries, and in october of 2006 had to go back to the external bag. I have already had 3 surgeries since then, and now they say I have crohns ( I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis when I was 13) I have been off work this time since the beginning of april, and the last time was off for 5 months from july to december of '06. I so understand where you are coming from!! such a cruddy hand we have been delt. but if you dont laugh, you cry, so I try to stay positive. I would love to keep in contact with you!! I was beginning to think that I was the only one who had complications! take care and hope to hear from you!! Becky beckyjean00(a)yahoo.com
