From: gngracie on 26 May 2008 16:18 Hi. I'm an avid walker, but I've started having some problems in the past few months with leg tightness and muscle cramping. My initial problem was with a muscle on the side of my leg (between my calf and shin) knotting up, only on the left leg. Now I'm having problems with calf and shin tightness and pain in both legs. I do multiple stretches before walking (and after warming up), with extra focus on my calves and shins, and I just bought new walking shoes about a month ago (New Balance), which have helped, but the problem has not resolved. When it was cooler outside (in the 60s and low 70s) I wasn't having any problems. As soon as the temp went up to the high 70s and now in the 80s and 90s, the problem has worsened. I have started drinking a bottle of water while I'm walking to make sure I stay plenty hydrated, and that also seems to help, but not completely. The weird thing is that if I can keep the pain at bay (by slowing down and stretching during my walks) and make it through it, my muscles seem to loosen up entirely and the end of my walk is pain-free. I just can't figure out why the stretching I'm doing and extra water isn't doing the trick to rid me of the pain. I would like to add some jogging to my regimen, but I'm afraid to right now with these leg problems. Has anyone else had similar problems? If so, how did you get it to resolve? Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated. :-) Brandy |
