From: louise on 13 Aug 2008 16:06 BP II I was given Lamictal to help stabilize and also to lessen severe depression. However, I had, what I'm told is a very "rare" reaction of becoming hypomanic as soon as I went above 50mg of Lamictal. So, Depakote, 375 - to move to 500, was added. I'm concerned because as I understand it, Depakote markedly increases the amount of Lamictal in your body and effectively results in my taking as much as 125mg of Lamictal even though I'm literally swallowing 50mg. Therefore, since Lamictal above 50mg makes me hypomanic, am I not, in effect, making myself hypomanic by increasing the concentration of Lamictal so much with the Depakote? Is anyone taking Lamictal and Depakote? And why was one or the other added? TIA Louise

However, whether you would become hypomanic with an unchanged Lamictal dose is not clear, because Depakote is an antimanic agent. I think you should discuss this with your doctor and see if he has good reasons for this decision, and whether he has taken the drug-interaction issues into account. -- Nom dePlume, Ph.D. Why, yes, in fact, I am a rocket scientist. Now that i have stopped i am able to experience sweet psychedelic hypomania and euphoria and all in all i enjoy life more when my mood is not "stabilised". Also I have no anxiety or fear of death anymore.
