Okay...... have you or anyone you know received it? Is it as effective or
more so than the pill form? What are the indications and drawbacks?

Something to be discussed with your doctor. I've received a similar med,
Pamidronate ... but I have an osteopenia secondary to another condition.
Zometa is given intravenously over 30-45 minutes. Sometimes can give
flu-like side effects, especially during the first one or two treatments
.... but is convenient and if your doctor assesses your osteoporosis as
lending itself well to this, you can get away without having to take
oral bisphosphonates and you may only need the iv once a year. Can
especially be beneficial for those who have difficulties tolerating oral
bisphosphonates in terms of their side effects on the stomach. Also, has
a higher rate of potentially causing Osteonecrosis of the Jaw than oral
bisphosphonates do ... but still only about 5-10% occurrence rate. I
believe there it is also being marketed as "Reclast".

Evelyn, I had my last bone density test 2 weeks ago.
the young lady that did my test said she had gotten a shot of
Recl??.something in January and that she would not know if it works
until next year 2009 when she was due for another one.

My doctor had info flyers around his office about it.
