From: Frank on 15 Oct 2005 22:26 Hi guys... I haven't been in touch for a while. Mainly because things have been going pretty good since my RRP last September. Judging from what I have been reading here my case was pretty routine. I'm having the usual problems. Erections showing some signs of improving but very slowly. Mental stimulation has no effect and manual takes some work. Incontinence is getting better and that's what prompted this posting. Directly after removal of the catheter I was a mess, No control whatsoever....normal! I was going through about 4 or 5 Guards a day. It gradually got better and soon I felt confident enough to go back to work.. Mail carrier (walking route!!!). I had to wear the guards AND Depends underwear over the guards. I still had to change the guard once or twice a day. I had to be sure I didn't wait till I felt like i had to pee. I had to schedule my stops to minimize leakage. I finally got to where I didn't need the underwear and I could get by with only one guard a day. I was able to control large loss of urine but the light leakage was still there. ( By the way, strangely enough, to me, is the fact that from the time the catheter came out I never leaked at all at night while sleeping, I was worried the first night but come morning I was dry) Anyhow, I retired just two weeks ago so the stress leakage is reduced and I can now get by with one light womens pad a day but the dripping is still there. I went to my uro last week for the results of my last PSA test (looks great thank God) and I mentioned that I was getting discouraged abut the dripping. I know it's not a big thing but it does stop me from getting intimate. It seems thats when I have least control. Now he scheduled me for Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation starting with a Urodynamic Test. The way that test is described I'm not sure I want to go through with it. S finally my questions are has anyone had that test and does the PVR help much. It's a 6 to 8 week process and he said it would help the leaking. But as i said it is getting better since I retired and I wonder if I should just stay the course. I know everyone is different but I'd like to hear waht anybody might have to say about this.. Thanks Frank
From: Steve Kramer on 16 Oct 2005 07:04 Congratulations on your retirement. That IS one nice thing about this disease. At least it allows most of us some retirement time. -- PSA 16 10/17/2000 @ 46 Biopsy 11/01/2000 G7 (3+4), T2c RRP 12/15/2000 G7 (3+4), T3cN0M0 Neg margins PSA .1 .1 .1 .27 .37 .75 EBRT 05-07/2002 @ 47 PSA .34 .22 .15 .21 .32 Lupron 07/03 (1 mo) 8/03 (4 mo), 12/03, 4/04, 09/04, 01/05 PSA .07 .05 .06 .05 non Illegitimi carborundum "Frank" <fmb419(a)aol.com> wrote in message news:1129429567.395262.101100(a)g44g2000cwa.googlegroups.com... > Hi guys... From: Frank on 16 Oct 2005 21:49 You're right Steve. It did move up my plans a bit. Retirement is another adjustment I have to make. Now I have to decide what to do during the day instead of the USPS planning my day. I'll tell you what though... I sure don't miss the " rain, sleet or gloom of night" business. Too old for that!! Frank, the Urodynamic Test isn't bad. The nurse who performed it on me was great. Some embarrassment. I am still on the catheter 8 - 10 times a day. Doesn't look as if that is going to change. On the 27th I see a doctor in Tampa about the Interstem Therapy. Jimmie

Jim, I'm just wondering whether I'm being a baby about this. I do see improvement but not as fast as I would like it. From the experience out there, is it too early to do the rehab? I'm about 95% continent now I would say, but I'm looking for 100. (aren't we all) I'm really considering holding off for a few months to see how things progress. Frank |
