From: Dave on 25 May 2007 18:04 After a conversation with my Nephrologist, I have to clarify what I posted earlier. First, he doesn't want me using that much Ibuprofen at one time. 400 mg max twice a day. Second. He said that the Ibuprofen is dialyzed the same way Phosphates are, which means a patient on a normal treatment schedule of 3-4 hours three times per week will have difficulty clearing it out of their system, although a small amount is expelled in the bowel movements. I don't do 3-4 hour treatments. I do 8 hour treatments. Since I have started this treatment regimen, I have gone from taking 800 mg 4 times a day of Renagel to control my Phosphate to only taking 800 mg when I feel I am eating something really high in phospates. PO3 went from 5.0-5.5 before to 3.5-4.5 now. Good range for here is 3.5-6.0. And this lowering is still occurring even though I eat a much larger portion of phosphate in my diet now. The 8 hours is enough time for most of the phosphate to be removed. It apparently works with the Ibuprofen as well, but he doesn't want me to push the issue as far as I have been. I had only earlier this week bumped it up to 800 mg from 400 mg. My bad. As you all have said, he would definitely discourage normal treatment patient's from using the Ibuprofen, although occasional use for acute problems may be appropriate.. Happy Memorial Day to the US readers. Dave
