Hi

Having taken my prescription for Humalog insulin cartridges to a well-
known high street perfume store and pharmacy, I have been told that there
are 'production problems' and that I should 'get something different from
the doctor'.
So, is this true (the production problems bit) or all they bullsh*tting
me? If they are, what rights do I have to take the prescription
elsewhere, since I have taken other items from it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Phone Lilly direct if there is a problem they will have a backup service
in hand. AFAIK their number is 01256315000.
I am on Hypurin Beef Lente and CCP supplied the chemists direct as
required from a stock pile they have for such emergencies. The
warehouse's got no supplies, I guess because they order in bulk.
As your chemist seems to be a bit lacking suggesting you change insulin
because he can not get it, I for one could not use the quick acting stuff
Novo make. It might be worth asking if he knows Humalog is now known by
its proper name = Lispro. It must be a couple of years since I got a
script with Humalog on it although it is still on the outer carton.

Bolus Humalog as required.

Boots? probably bullshitting, but as Dave says try contacting the
manufacturer.

My ex once asked me to get some Neutrogena product, Boots assured me
it had been taken off the market but it was readily available from a
different chemist: what they meant was they had stopped stocking it. I
hadn't heard of them trying this on with prescription stuff though. Oh
wait on, yes I did, they were allegedly "unable" to get famotidine for
a couple of weeks. Probably they were unable to source it cheap enough
from Greece or wherever.

They also once assured me they did not stock a particular battery. As
I was leaving (through a different door from where I came in) I passed
a whole stack of them.

So you can imagine I am not too happy that Boots have bought out our
local pharmacy . . .

AFAIK once any part of a prescription has been dispensed you cannot
take it elsewhere.

Yes - Boots. What you say makes sense - the last lot they got for me was
EC sourced - English stick-on labels over the original Spanish(?).
The manufacturer say that Boots will have to request a direct delivery
themselves - I guess I'll have to be forceful with them tomorrow.
What a shambles. This is pretty awful behaviour from Boots - I certainly
won't be going there again.

Thanks for the replies to both you and Dave.

How did I guess? <G>

We get that all the time with our meds, they are sourced from all over
the world with as you say labels stuck on over the original
Polish/Turkish/Greek. Mind you the previous pharmacy owners did much
the same, the NHS have to save as much money as they can in order to
pay all their managers and accountants.

I had another thought, check your local PCT website and see if they
have a Formulary. Here they use Ranitidine instead of Famotidine, but
despite their being highly similar drugs and the GP supposedly giving
me a dose equivalent the Ranitidine never worked properly. It may be
in your case that the local formulary is for Novolog rather than
Humalog so they are unwilling to order it specially for you. See if
you can't use a pharmacy instead <G> the staff in our local Boots
haven't changed since it was Unichem or whoever but they now have to
keep certain products "under the counter" for regular customers, they
are no longer allowed to stock them on the shelves. If this is ever
stopped I shall be heading to the next town for my supplies . . .
