If I am trying to stay around 20 grams of fat and doing the 1200 calories, where should I try to keep my carbs? So far I haven't counted them, but I do try to make better choices in my side dishes. Is there a good number to stick with or is what I am doing okay? -- DisneyDana

From: Mommyof3 on 17 Oct 2005 21:13 I am thinking it shouldn't hurt to watch your "sugar" carbs. Total carbs are another thing...there are good and bad types of carbs. If you start trying to count carb grams on top of this already severe restriction you will be left with nothing to eat. If you want to follow a very low fat diet you should check out the book Eat More, Weight Less from the library.

Is there a good number to > stick with or is what I am doing okay? > If you are eating 1200 calories a day, then 20 grams of fat is only 180 calories from fat (1 gram fat = 9 calories) That leaves you with 1020 calories to divide between proteins and carbs (they are each worth 4 calories per gram). That said, there are good fats and bad fats. And there are good carbs and bad carbs. And even better choices of protein than some others. Its ALL ABOUT YOUR CHOICES and not as much about the calories as you may think. Just wondering where you came to the 1200 calories as your daily total choice? Thats not much to function on. If you think of food as being equal to fuel for your body you will be one step ahead of most people who think only of dieting just to lose a few pounds and not a lifestyle commitment to changing oneself from the inside out. ;-) joanne |
