When the first doctor, in the 1840's if I remember correctly, said that doctors and hospital staff had to wash their hands between touching different patients, he was practically hounded out of the profession. I may be mistaken, but I believe that that medic was Joseph Lister (1827-1912), who did achieve recognition and a peerage (baron). He is often called "the father of modern surgery." Before his antiseptic methods became accepted, as many as 50% of surgery patients died from infections. Surgeons considered it a status symbol to be covered in blood. Sometimes I wonder how any of our ancestors survived to be ancestors. Regards, Steve J "Either lead, follow, or get out of the way." --Anonymous

A local hospital is on the carpet for 3 unwarranted deaths, and is about to lose Medicare and Medicade certification. Since the story broke about the earlier probe into the deaths, there has been at least 1 more "unwarranted" death reported. ___ Blue Wave/QWK v2.12

Not sure if anyone is interested in the "Improvements" that are being sought by some hospitals. Lean is based on the Toyota production system. It is used to remove waste from any process and to make processes error proof, as mentioned in Steve's article the use of a simple checklist could do wonders. I am attaching a link to a good blog which has additional links if anyone is interest http://www.leanblog.org/. Wishing all good health. cil 8/19 will be my 9th anniversary of Radical Prostate surgery.
