From: SJ on 21 Aug 2005 02:15 Hi, I have just responded to the question "HELP!!!! -- Are there any good vitamin substitutes (or close substitutes) for Valtrex/acyclovir?", but I think this is worth putting forward as a separate topic. So I'll repeat some of what I said and add some more evidence. Yes, there is a product that will reduce Herpes outbreaks. I should know, I had genital herpes and used to get it frequently. Since I started taking Transfer Factors I haven't had an outbreak in at least 9 months. I would normally get it when I was under stress and overworked and I still haven't had a recurrence even though I have been through hell at work. You will find info at http://www.healthandhabitat.com Transfer Factors were discovered in the late 1940 by Dr. H. Sherwood Lawrence but the product has only come out on the market in the last 5 years or so. Lots of info on TF on my web site - it is really worth a look. Here is a extract from ABSTRACTS OF THE COMMUNICATIONS PRESENTED AT THE XTH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON TRANSFER FACTOR, HELD IN BOLOGNA (ITALY) JUNE 22-24, 1995. Effect of anti-herpes specific transfer factor. J. Byston, K. Cech, J. Pekarek & J. Jilkova Dept. of Allergology and Clinical Immunology, Faculty Hospital, Pavlova 6, Olomouc, Czech Republic Using a blood cell separator, lymphocytes were collected from otherwise healthy convalescents suffering from herpetic infections. A specific anti-herpes dialysate (AH-DLE) was prepared from the lymphocytes, using standard procedures. Patients with recurrent herpetic infections were treated with a single dose of the dialysate, at the initial signs of herpetic infection (group A), in two doses (group B) or in three doses (group C). A total number of 37 patients (29 women, 8 men, age range 15-73 years) were treated. No improvement was observed in 7 patients (18.9%), whilst 7 patients did not manifest any exacerbation of their herpetic infection in the course of the one-year follow-up. The remaining 62.2% of the patients showed a marked improvement: decrease of the frequency and/or duration or relapses. Before AH-DLE administration, the mean number of herpes relapses in this group of patients was 12 p.a.. After therapy, the number of relapses decreased to 3.5 p.a.. No statistically significant difference was observed between groups A and B. The least favourable results were registered in group C. However, this group included 6 female patients extremely resistant to the previously therapeutic attempts, including inosiplex, non-specific DLE or acyclovir. Thus, even in this group, the therapy was successful in 50% of the patients. end of quote. Like I said in my previous message, I was introduced to TF by Dr. Stephen Hardy who was doing a seminar on "Chemicals, Cancer, The Immune System and You" a round Australia. He has 20 years experience in research science, Organic Agriculture and Permaculture. I investigated the product and was sold on it, that's why I signed up to market it under MLM, even though I am not a sales type person. In all honesty, this product is amazing. Yes, the products are not cheap, but TF is not just a fix for Herpes - it will support your total immune system, so that you can get on with life. Cheers and all the best, SJ

Sounds good, but I have two questions: 1) do you have any financial connection with transfer factors and, if so, exactly what? 2) the frequency of herpes outbreaks often dies down or they even quit entirely. How do you know that this wouldn't have happened in your case even without the transfer factors? Do you know of many other individuals with the same experience? One is hardly a statistically significant example. Also please be aware that even if they did do wonders for you they won't necessarily work for everyone nor even necessarily with a large portion of HSV patients. (I.E: I wouldn't invest all your savings in a MLM scheme without a lot of prior invesitigation). Jim PS Note that here was no true control group: the patients served as their own controls The standard of supposed efficacy was the reduction in recurrance rate per annum. But no mention was made of over what period of time this measure was made before treatment and what period after treatment. HSV outbreaks very often (perhaps even usually) decrease in both frequency and severity of time and with no real control group the observed difference in rate could well IMHO be entirely dependant on this known phenomenon. The part about "this group included 6 female patients extremely resistant to the previously therapeutic attempts" IMHO, positively reeks of "cherry picking" the data. I would also point out that this group was massively too small to have detected possible adverse effects. Please note: I'm not saying that they don't work, just that, IMHO, they are very far from having been proven to do so. I suspect that there may be something very useful in there. But I also suspect that considerably more research is probably necessary to get a really useful tool out of it.
