From: Sarterial raptor on 3 May 2008 17:10 I am a disabled man of 48. I cannot walk and use a power chair to get around. The problem is that I use a powered wheelchair lift/carrier that is basically "hanging" off the trailer hitch of my Chevy Blazer and I am starting to have problems with the combination. My wife and I went to a place that sells wheelchair acessible vans and minvans and we found several that we like and would meet our needs perfectly, but the cost is enormous. We found that we could afford the financing and payments, but we could not get the financig for the vehicle we finally chose, a 2007 Buick with lowered floor and slide out under the floor type ramp. An agency up around Carson City will assist in getting financing for up to $20,000.00 but these vehicles typacally run anywhere from 30K to 50K, the Buick sells for 48K and the payment would be around $600.00/month. Does anybody know where I can get assistance in financing a good reliable wheelchair accessible minvan? I need to get something soon, or I will end up not being able to transport myself to my job and ulrimately lose my decently paying job.
From: MaryFromOrlando on 11 May 2008 22:47 I bought a used Dodge Grand Caravan, wheel chair equipped for $20,000 last December. A used one is usually still in good shape. I got it from a dealer in St. Petersburg, FL. But I am sure you could find a used one in your area at a reasonable price. I really like it. My husband can get in it himself and all I have to do is fasten it down and operate the ramp and door. The passenger seat is removable so he can ride in front while I drive. Mary
