From: anonymous on 18 Sep 2008 14:00 ""Among men and women who consulted primary care physicians, BMI and particularly WC were both strongly linked to CVD and especially to diabetes mellitus. Strategies to address this global problem are required to prevent an epidemic of these major causes of morbidity and mortality."" Not completely accurate, 80 percent of the obese don't become diabetic. Those who do have a genetic predisposition for it. Bmi and wc in the normal range is advised to avoid other health risks however, such as the cvd mentioned above. Low levels of physical activity is equally linked to diabetes. Lack of it and being over weight are the twin factors most common to all diabetes and cvd. The lack of it is not because of the calories not consumed for the most part but because of the changes at the cell level that increase risk for the disorders.

The reply: ""If that were true, the article would not have remained published in Circulation without retraction." Obviously the inaccuracy was in tying the assertion of the dsubject line to the journal snip. It was incomplete and misleading as presented. > ... , 80 percent of the obese don't become diabetic. "If the obese were kept from premature cardiovascular deaths, all would in time become diabetic." This will require on your part evidence from an accepted journal. Too many off the cuff assertions have been made to now accept claims without support. "Similarly not all smokers develop emphysema, dying off prematurely from cardiovascular deaths however smoking remains the cause of it." Request for supporting journal information as above. "Thus, overeating remains the cause of type-2 diabetes."" No, this is what in the data world is described as "garbage in, garbage out". If the foundational assertions are wrong and unsupported then any conclusion drawn from them are likewise.
