From: Greta on 19 Oct 2007 19:25 I am a breast cancer patient. Found out today from my oncologist that my GFR is 24. Creatine - 2.1 This is pessimistic news for me. I am being referred to a nephrologist meanwhile I am trying not to panic - not too successfully and too old to consider a transplant! Greta

This diet was formulated by Mackenzie Walser who was a researcher at Johns Hopkins for 45 years. You can get a book about the diet at amazon.com. It's about $7.50 if you select 'used books', even though they are new. The book is called " Coping With Kidney Disease" by Mackenzie Walser. I've used the diet successfully for about a year now and it has dramatically slowed the progressive of my kidney disease. Mine is the type that comes from hypertension. Check the diet with your nephrologist, but they will sometimes have not heard of it, and they often just let you go down into dialysis without trying to avoid or delay it. Some statistics have shown up to a 25% mortality figure for dialysis in the first year or two, so avoiding dialysis is a wise move for many people. Some here favor getting into dialysis real soon, but I'm not convinced that is wise when you can avoid it. Chris

The diet does not have enough without it. The book recommends either Calwood nutritionals or Gambro "aminess N". Both can be found on the Net. The formula for the diet is .3 grams per kilogram. This is extremely low, but necessary. Good Luck, Chris
