IS IT POSSIBLE /LIKELY FOR THE HERPES VIRUS TO REMAIN DORMANT FOR MORE
THAN 35 YEARS AND WITHOUT A SIGN THEN SUDDENLY BECOME ACTIVE/
CONTAGIOUS? IF IT IS POSSIBLE, HOW PROBABLE IS IT?

According the docs I have read it can be dormant for 7-8 years.

It is possible that the symptoms are not obvious and something stressful
triggers a larger outbreak. Person that gave me the virus was not aware
they had it and the outbreak was experienced as discomfort not as a major
attack.

My current partner was semi aware that they could be positive but did not
have the test because of denial. I came along and it was better to be
positive, life is funny like that.

Ken,

Yeah real funny. I had a sexual encounter pre-marriage about 35 years
ago and now my wife of 32 years develops a bad case of GH

I am on the floor laughing at the irony.

Thanks Ken,

I think it is possible. Anything is possible.

Believe me the whole idea of HSV is really difficult, I am still
challenged emotionally about being HSV2 positive.

Please be sure that you are talking the same language. There are two
types, HSV1 and HSV2.

HSV1 can affect you genitally and it is normally transmitted via the
mouth, ie kissing someone with a cold saw. Use your imagination how it
goes down there.

HSV2 is only very rarely passed on non-sexually. It can happen it is
just not statistically relevant. Statistics I have read are as high as 1
in 4 women and 1 in 8 men over 40 have HSV2. These are truly terrifying
statistics, the number of people actually diagnosed must be statistically
insignificant.

I would sit down with your wife with an experienced STD counsellor and
honestly talk about what has happened. Do some research and lay it on
the table, you can only work through things by being honest. I have
recently split with my wife of 21 years so you have empathy from me. (I
got HSV after the split so HSV was nothing to do with my problems.)

I do hope some good comes out of this.
