GABA is Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid. It is said to be a good dietary
supplement for those suffering social anxiety/phobia because it is so
important in the parts of the brain that are used a lot when people are
being social. I don't know much about it and I am trying to find good
info that isn't too technical for me to understand.

Here is a more technical link:

Here is one more on social anxiety:
http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/biology/b103/f02/web1/awardy.html
"In addition to genetic causes, there is also evidence that SAD is
caused by chemical disturbances in the brain....
Research shows that "dysregulation of neurotransmitter function in the
brain is thought to play a key role in social phobia. Specifically
dopamine, serotonin, and GABA dysfuncition are hypothesized in most
cases of moderate to severe SP.""

I'll post more if I find anything great.

That one says that GABA pills won't affect the brain because of the
blood-brain barrier. You might need to take Picamilon, a medicine with
GABA bound to niacin, a vitamin, which can cross the BBB.

Other sites seem to say GABA can cross the BBB but it isn't easy. ? I
guess not everyone agrees.

This site is really great, about neuro chemicals in general, with
drawings for silly people like me who like that.

It's got a GABA section too.
