From: limp biscuit on 24 Sep 2005 02:51 I'm a 62 year old male and my Endocrinologist is thinking of starting me on Forteo. I have several more blood and urine tests to under go before the decision is made. Anyone with knowledge, male that is, in this group. I would appreciate your sharing your use of the drug. Thanking you in advance for your assistance.
From: Larry on 24 Sep 2005 10:09 Although this sounds like a wonderful drug, the only thing you have to be concerned about is it was found to cause osteosarcoma (a bone cancer) in a # of animals during testing. Suggest you discuss the risk with your endo, as I can't quantify. Larry E. limp biscuit wrote: > I'm a 62 year old male and my Endocrinologist is thinking of starting > me on Forteo. I encourage you to read the literature carefully on Forteo and make your own informed decision. Many people are against Forteo for the Osteosarcoma. My issue is that according to the reports it is that it was several times the normal dosage. Also it was tested in rats, I have found any research in rats to cause cancer in general. Another plus on its side is that this drug has been used in Europe for sometime now. But I digress and encourage you make your own decision. Wish I had more information to offer. The shots are nothing and are small 32g needles. So it is no real big deal in giving it. David
