From: Anne Brennan on 17 Aug 2005 18:10 cee cee, have you tried any other medications? I am wondering why you are taking Forteo. When I see my doctor in September, I am sure he will want me to begin Forteo, because of the bone cancer thing I will refuse this medication. I h ave experienced to many acute problems with Foxomax, Actonel, and now Boniva. Did you try any of these? Anne
From: cee cee on 17 Aug 2005 18:45 My Osteoporosis is bad and I have a swallowing problem because I also have a muscle disease so taking pills is not for me. I was taking Miacalcin nose spray but it wasn't helping. As Beach Runner pointed out Rats given the drug that is in Forteo some have developed Osteosarcoma a bone Cancer. Which is rare in humans. These Rats were given drug for most of their life time. Forteo is only a 2 yr program. So taking my chances as my Osteoporosis is bad. I already had a bad fall 2 1/2yrs ago and fractured myself in 3 places. CeeCee

I am taking Forteo and have started my 2nd month of it. I got headaches for the 1st few days but they subsided. I read all the literature that I could find on Forteo. The product does carry a blackbox warning. Which several drugs approved in the US do. However, I also read the study with Forteo. The rats were give 2 to 3 times the normal dosage. Research in general causes cancer in rats. Look at Sachran. I never heard of someone getting cancer from that. I advise anyone taking or being suggested to take the drug make a strong informed decision on what is right for them. I will be curious to see where I am in 4 more months.
