From: Lance Thomas on 28 Jun 2008 02:39 I have had Crohns now for about 15 years and am currently on Humira. Every now and then I get the shakes/shivers and feel cold (even on a hot summer day). It lasts for a couple of hours during which time I usually need to go to bed and sleep. Afterwards I feel OK but very tired. Does anyone else get similar symptoms. It may be totally unrelated but I'd be interested to know. Thank-you Lance Thomas
From: neetac on 28 Jun 2008 04:42 Yep, me. For years I've had trouble controlling my body temperature. I get fevers quite regularly and I always have to have a jumper at work, even on hot summer days. My doctor reckons it's quite a common thing for people with Crohns. Nothing much you can do but take some paracetamol for the fever and rug up (the good thing when it happens when I'm home is that I can crawl into bed with a good book). Neeta. From: anon on 28 Jun 2008 14:00 I've experienced this as well. In my case it's usually the sign of the onset of a brief Crohn's related spell of fever. If you're concerned about it, though, you should report it to your GI physician in case he wants to examine you or run any tests as a precaution. From: Lance Thomas on 30 Jun 2008 06:06 Thank you 'anon'. However, by chance, I actually had one of these episodes while I was at the hospital for one of my regular appointments. My specialist examined me but couldn't find anything and did not mention that it could be caused by Crohns. I had blood tests at the time as well - even for malaria which I've had before. Neeta - did your doctor provide any references? I've had my father-in-law, who is a doctor, search the literature and he could only find one reference to this phenomenon in relation to a person with UC. So I'm wondering just how well known and documented it is. Sorry Lance, I believe it's just anecdotal evidence. I remember his comments to the effect that it was coincidental that most of the crohn's patients he's treated, have the same problem with no other obvious cause.
