From: magdelena72 on 7 Oct 2005 14:15 I am a new member to this group and just wanted to vent a little bit... I am a 32 year old female. About 2 months ago I started dieting and exercising to lose some weight. At that time I weighed 182, currently I weigh 177. I am 5' 6" and am hoping to lose about 40 lbs or so by the end of the year so that my weight is closer to 140. I have been tracking my calorie intake and exercise on a site called fitday.com. I have been very diligent about inputting everything I eat. I am averaging about 1300 calories per day, my fat intake is about 36%, my carbs are 50% and my protein is about 14%. For exercise, I was doing a 30 minute Denise Austin workout that I tivo every day. It has different segments including cardio, yoga, pilates, etc. Generally, I do a workout that includes some step aerobics and some ab stuff like crunches. I also incorporate 5# weights into whatever cardio stuff I'm doing a few times a week. About a week ago, I began incorporating daily rides on my stationery bike. It also has arms that you pump back and forth. I generally ride between 30-60 minutes at a time. So I am burning about 500 calories each day. I feel like I'm not making very much progress. I am thinking of this not as a "weight loss program" but as a lifestyle change. I want to continue adding different exercises to my routine and am planning on starting to incorporate lap swimming in a couple of weeks. I guess I'm just a bit dicouraged because I thought I would be further along on my goal by now. I'm starting to see a small bit of difference in my measurements, a half inch here and a half inch there, but nothing substantial. I feel good and I'm taking a multi-vitamin, plus a calcium supplement daily so I am meeting all my nutritional goals. I think I'm on the right track, and I'm not planning on quitting, but I have just been feeling a bit discouraged. Trying not to step on the scale every day is hard. That's all. Just wanted to gripe for a bit. Gonna go drink some more water now.
From: bratok on 16 Oct 2005 15:16 What you eat matters. What do you eat? Some people exercise, but don't really put any energy into it. I doubt that you are burning 500 calories a day in a 30 minute workout. Try to use ecliptic machine for 30 minutes. Depending on how much you really execrcise you might not get above 400 calories on ecliptic machine in 30 minutes. Compare it with intensity of your own exercise. Anything else (like yoga elements) will give you even less. I need to add an entry about this to my little blog :) http://diet-and-lifestyle.com/wpress/ On 2005-10-07 11:15:28 -0700, "magdelena72" <flaws72(a)hotmail.com> said: > I am a new member to this group and just wanted to vent a little bit... > > I am a 32 year old female. I just joined this group today and have had a lot of success in dieting during the last 73 days. I've lost 58 lbs over that period of time and the reason is that I've limited my total daily intake of sodium to no more than 200/mg a day. Take your intake of sodium seriously because it is the main cause of retaining weight, even though you are dieting and exercising -- loverduck
