Through a long series of events, I now own an AccuChek Versa
and a FreeStyle Freedom Lite. Accucheck sent it overnight
free when I called to ask about the difference between the
softclix and the multi-clix and explained I planned to use
the pen with a Freestyle meter :-)

The Accuchek came with control solution, the FreeStyle did not.

I've now checked both meters twice, no more than one minute
apart, and my readings are different by 12 points.

The Accuchek gave me 135 one hour after a meal and the
Freestyle gave me 123.

Before the meal the Accuchek gave me 99 and the FreeStyle
gave me 112.

What do I make of this? Are these meter readings only true
when you're using the same meter?

BTW, I did use the control solution on the accuchek and it
came out within range.

Thanks

Louise

Assuming the 'real' result should be somewhere in between, that's a
difference of about 10%.

That is also around 10% difference.

The FDA requires that meters be accurate to +-20%. I expect that if you
check the numbers on the control solution, you'll see that it represents
about +-15% - i.e. a spread of 30%. Your numbers are well within that
range. There is no reason to believe that either is in error beyond the
quoted ranges.

all of those readings are close enough to be called 'the same'

meter error is allowed to be 20% by the FDA, however most meters are
much better

Consumer's Digest rates the One Touch Mini meter and #1 and the One
Touch Ultra 2 meter as #2 in the Sept issue

I've seen my fasting blood glucose (FBG) readings vary by
to to 10 points (US measurement) just by going from one vial
of test strips to another, even when staying with the same
meter.
