From: PostMaster on 18 Feb 2007 17:55 My mother has recently been diagnosed with probable cirrhosis. Biopsy wasn't able to confirm but clinicaly it's looking that way so far. One of the biggest problems we are facing is keeping her ammonia level down. She takes lactalose and for the last couple months 90ml a day worked fine but then her ammonia level shot up rather suddenly. One of the things I suspect is a few changes she made in what she was eating the last couple weeks. Is there a list of foods, food types, food chemicals, minerals, that can cause the ammonia level to elevate? The only thing I've been able to find is mention of animal fats, protien, but thats about it. I'm looking for things like citric acid, calcium, artificial sweetners, things like that for example. What helps? What to stay away from? An extensive list would be very helpful. TIA, PostMaster |
