You can't just "wipe" it in disinfectant. Some disinfectants will sterilize, but the burs must be immersed long enough. I autoclave the burs. Anyone out there use glutaraldehyde? Does it corrode burs? Steve

From: Amatus Cremona on 9 Aug 2008 17:03 But you simply wipe the tubing. So the overall effect is not total sterilization. Plus, the steam will not penetrate the oil used to lubricate the handpiece. Sterilizing handpieces is viewed as very high level disinfection "Steven Bornfeld" <dentaltwinmung(a)earthlink.net> wrote in message news:iqqdnbmvN_ujjgTVnZ2dnUVZ_hGdnZ2d(a)earthlink.com... > nkomli(a)gmail.com wrote: >> Hi, a general question >> >> Are dentists allowed to simply clean their drills by wiping with a >> disinfectant or are they required to sterilize it in some apparatus >> like a chemiclave? > > > > You can't just "wipe" it in disinfectant.
