From: snowrider555 on 10 Jan 2007 14:26 Hello, I've been dignosed with (according to my x-ray) "minor degenerative disc disease at the L2-3 and L3-4 levels" I've gained about 50lbs in 2006, could that be the cause? I've been fairly active most of my life and have never had back problems before until the last few months. It hasn't been my bed, chair or anything else that I can put a finger on. My doctor has me on a muscle relaxant as well as novo-naprox which doesn't appear to do anything so he also prescriped ... permagabolin I think which is to treat pain associated with pinched nerves. My doctor suggested weight loss and a routine for getting back into the swing of things. Think that will help?

I have much worse problems with my back, (DJD multi level, moderate stenosis with sciatic pain) and losing weight (200 to 165), along with a full course of PT including stretching, stim & heat, and exercise, particlularly core strengthening. My back pain went from an 8 to a 1 (on a scale of 10). I now work out (on my own) 3x a week, doing a full course of exercises on machines & free weights with cario included.
From: snowrider555 on 20 Jan 2007 18:08 The Permagobolin (sp?) seems to have worked miracles so far for the pain. I doubt it's fixed anything, probably just blocking my pain sensors. My chiro said extra pound of weight you put on your gut adds 10lbs of stress to the back, so my 50-pound gain is essentially putting 500lbs of stress on my back. Does that sound accurate? Will my.... Lumbar discs(?) re-expand then once the extra weight and stress is taken off of them do you know? thx!
