Did I read somewhere that there was a tablet coming out in the next year
or so that would rectify the gut so that we would be able to eat
normally again?

Research has been carried out in both England (Manchester Uni from
memory) and Australia (Royal Melbourne Hospital) into cloeiac desease.

The aim of the research (which i believe is now nearing completion of
the rye/gluten study stage) is to develop a 'vaccine' for coeliacs
which they want to design to be delivered via a nasal spray, not by
tablet.

The trial in Melbourne has been utilising volunteers who have been
willing to undergo a gluten challenge (i.e. consume products
containing gluten over a set period of time) and then taking rather
large blood sample in order to harvest the white blood cells which
would be generated by a coeliac who undergoes a gluten reaction.

18 months ago the team was concentrating on wheat-gluten, late last
year and early this year it was concentrating on rye-gluten and I
believe wil then move on to barley-gluten.

Mid way through last year the team anticipated that a spray vaccine
would or should be ready to enter into clinical trials in about 5
years time (thats about 4 years from now).

I haven't seen anything or heard from the team for about 8 months so
not sure where they are currently up to in the trials.
