That is a recurring myth, especially appropriate during the Halloween season. Last I saw, there was no evidence that that occurs. Otherwise, millions of men would have suffered for it. I understand that PCa cells cannot survive outside the gland until/unless they have mutated. There is no approved alternate means of diagnosing PCa other than via biopsy. Regards, Steve J
From: R L on 27 Oct 2008 17:45 That is all of the information I was given. They did not ask me my opinion, but I wondered about the consequencis. In my case, it was not known that I had prostate cancer before I was given a transuretheral prostate procedure. When I went to see the doctor in a couple of weeks he said, "there's been quite a discussion about you. The pathologist found Gleason scale 9 prostate cancer cells during the procedure." Well, I did not accuse anybody....but the only place they have found mets is in my lungs, following radiation therapy. There's more to the story, but I refrain from going into it. I would just remark...anything that breaks through the capsule could spread the pca that resides there, possibly.. Ralph

The upper limit of normal depends on age and race, so for example, the 'normal' for a 50 year old man is 2.5 PSA levels higher than normal may indicate benign disease or prostate cancer. An age/race calculator is here http://www.urologychannel.com/HealthProfiler/healthpro_psaageRace.shtml What's the uro biopsying? Did he find something while doing a DRE? J

The uro wants to do a biopsy. Seems fairly quick on the draw, unless he had previously moved up from a 2.3 before that. |
