From: John Sheppard on 31 Jan 2007 19:24 Here are some books and audio books I have read that I can recommend to those that are interested. A 10-Week Recovery Program for Overcoming Panic, Anxiety, & Phobias (BOOK + AUDIO) by Shirley Babior, Carol Goldman http://www.amazon.com/10-Week-Recovery-Program-Overcoming-Anxiety/dp/1570251517/sr=8-5/qid=1170288064/ref=sr_1_5/002-2454343-3309650?ie=UTF8&s=books (I found this to be quite good and highly recommend it over paying a fortune for a psychologist, it does require WORK though, you cant just sit down and listen to the tapes) Social Intelligence: The New Science of Human Relationships (Hardcover) by Daniel Goleman http://www.amazon.com/Social-Intelligence-Science-Human-Relationships/dp/0553803522/sr=1-1/qid=1170288456/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-2454343-3309650?ie=UTF8&s=books (Good background info on the way the brain works with social interactions, nothing to do with CBT) Finding Serenity in the Age of Anxiety (Paperback) by Robert Gerzon http://www.amazon.com/Finding-Serenity-Anxiety-Robert-Gerzon/dp/055337978X/sr=1-5/qid=1170288361/ref=sr_1_5/002-2454343-3309650?ie=UTF8&s=books (This was one of the best books I recall reading unfortunatly I gave it away to help a friend who never returned it, it was one of the first ones I read though) The Hidden Face of Shyness (Paperback) by Franklin Schneier, Lawrence Welkowitz http://www.amazon.com/Hidden-Face-Shyness-Franklin-Schneier/dp/0380783991/sr=1-1/qid=1170288654/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-2454343-3309650?ie=UTF8&s=books (This one has good info, I found it a bit clinical for my liking, apart from the info I cant say it helped me in a practical sense) Here are also some other books I recommend anyone read, unsocial phobic related ; The road less travelled - M Scott Peck The road less travelled and beyond - M Scott Peck Further along the road less travelled - M Scott Peck The tibetan book of living and dying - Sogyal Rinpoche Bhagavad-Gita as it is - A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada Hope that helps someone. It has special chapters on dating and job hunting for SA people which I found particularly interesting. I also enjoyed Eckhart Tolle's book and in fact went to a 2-day even in Findhorn, Scotland to hear him speak. I love his philosophy but found it hard to put into practice. Probably about time I re-read that book!
