I am on Toporol XL which lowers heart rate you have to judge by the way it
feels not the heart rate. I am also on Benazepril. I had a lot of trouble
with exercise capacity, sleepiness and a low resting heart rate, high 40s
low 50s Bp 115 over 55. I reduced the Toporol by half and now the heart rate
is in the low 60s. I am only working out at 83 to 93 bpm I go up one bpm per
week. I had AFib, loss of 30 pounds in a short period of time and alcohol
withdrawl. Most of my problem at the moment seems to be lactic acid
tolerance. Your increase in heart rate may be a withdrawal symptom of the
medication. Toprol can also mess up your cholesterol. my LDL is 116 my HDL
is 37. Before I started on the medication my LDL was 68 my HDL was 45.
